Will he or not

Plenty speculation that Owen Farrell will sign for Wigan and the first fixture for Wigan next season would be against Leigh…near full house….but who would take the place kicks…Farrell Keighran or Smith….very interesting

Can't understand why in the world we would want him to be honest. Who would you leave out of the side in order to play a 32yr old who would cost a hell of a lot of money and hasn't played proper rugby for many a year? Doesn't make sense from either a playing or economic viewpoint.

You seriously expect him to drop down from £800,000 per year to £150,000? Or from the 'World Stage' to Wigan Little Theatre?
its NOT going to happen

Well i don't know where this latest rumour has come from but to ever contemplate Owen Farrell changing codes is absolute BALDERDASH ,BUNKUM whatever label you want ,i am a rugby league fan ,but also i love watching Union too, on the finacial side like WIGVET states who in their right mind would take a massive drop in income and come from the world stage of UNION to our backwater of league ????????? BIN this idea it won't happen .

Money doesn’t come into it….he will be highly motivated to have a go for 2 years especially on his dads past experience with Wigan…he’s a millionaire by any standards and he would certainly put 3000 more bums on Wigans average of 13000…now or never…probably his wife would have a big say in it though

Money doesn't come into it??? Give your head a wobble! Of course it does! And even if he did sign which i very very much doubt what position would he play and who would you leave out in order to play him? And why do you think he would put any extra bums on seats? He isn't exactly a flair player is he?

The publicity this would generate would be phenomenal, and probably would put extra bums on seats, short term.(You never know, maybe one or two off here might get down to the DW)
In reality ,taking on a player in his thirties ,who although he has played league 15 or so years ago,is a no go in my opinion. His kicking game is fantastic, don’t think he could play stand off in RL though.
It’s Bevan and Harry in the halves for me

I think he could play loose forward…I’m not saying I would want Wigan to sign him but he would put Rugby League on the “map” for a while…remember when Ellery Hanley moved to loose forward from stand off / centre how many people thought that was crackers…I’m not comparing Farrell with Hanley as a player but these things happen…if it is going to happen it will have to be soon…his passion for RL will be the driving force if he wants to change codes before he gets too old…he’s a clever lad and I’m sure he’ll make the decision he feels is right for him and his family…he may play with more flair with less players on the field…

When Wigan signed Gregory as Scrum Half and Edwards was Stand Off, my Brother-in Law asked me the same question and without any hesitation I replied Loose Forward as Handly was not only a good ball handler, but good tackler as well. The nearest to come near him at Loose Forward has been Shaun O'Loughlin.

Oh, and for the record, at the time Andy Farrell took the thirty pieces of silver to join Saracens RU, I was told that Owen wanted to stay with his Grandmother in Wigan, but was overruled by his parents.

Owen Farrell together with Francis Clough have been the two biggest losses to Wigan!

Can agree with that OC but Fran Clough was an academic went to Durham university so probably that came into the equation…watched him a few times at Orrell..he was another Eric Ashton

As I recall former Union commentator Bill McLaren at the game where Clough made his debut for England, he told viewers which former public schools the different players were educated.

When he came to Fran Clough, he must have struggle to say St John Fisher High School, Wigan!

Something similar happened with Bob Kimmins,Nigel Starmer -Smith couldn’t get ‘bricklayer ‘out when going through the occupations of the Lancashire team on rugby special

Typical approach by the “Doctors and Dentists “ game…snobs…I played a lot of RU in the RN and in the main it was the same when they knew I was from Wigan…I got called Eddie after Mr Waring

You reckon he could play loose forward? You have been saying our pack isn't big enough all season! How big is he? And do you reckon he could make 40+ tackles a game in defence and take the ball up maybe 10 or 15 times in attack? I don't think he could do anywhere near that, he isn't fit enough to stand the workload and the pace of the game, he does far less work in Union because of countless rucks, scrums, line outs, and they go for goal from every penalty they get in kicking range, that game is a lot slower.

You’re probably right there…it would be a risk…I can imagine Luke Thompson or Ben walters getting the loose forward spot…but he may have ball handling skills that we’ve not seen for a while in that position

Owen Farrell is one of the few older players in the England set up who will be part of the group going forward to the next World Cup.
Steve Borthwick, the head coach, believes that an ageing Owen will have same influence on the England team as has Johnny Sexton on the Ireland team.Johnny has just retired at the age of 38.
